A Poem for the Distanced Souls

It’s so quiet
I can hear.
The scratching of the ballpoint pen
on paper.
The rustling of woolen sleeves
caressing the table.

It’s so quiet
I can hear.
The gentle swooshing of the wind
outside these walls.
The bright chirping of little birds
enjoying it all.

It’s so quiet
I can hear.
The two sounds of my breathing –
in and out.
The gentle hum of my laptop,
a connection to everyone else.

Was it always so quiet?
I closed my eyes, pondered.

Listened.

A distant car passes.
Answering my question.

For some, it’s hard
to keep a distance.
But slow it down, take a listen
this is how we go the distance.

  1. This was so beautiful, Julie! You need to publish a book of poems! They would honestly make such a lovely and deep book!

Also, the picture you chose for the header just makes me want to curl up with a book and gaze out the window πŸ˜‰

    1. Thanks Emily! You flatter me!
Yes that’s the idea! Whether we’re reading or just daydreaming, that looks like the perfect spot!
