Dark Blue Journal: Minimalism, Sustainability, Life, Simply

Welcome to Dark Blue Journal, a blog where I look deeper into the state of things and turn what I learn into words. Simplicity is where it’s at. I believe you’ll find something useful here!

A little background

My name is Julie, an ordinary girl with a busy brain, living a life of quiet contemplation and constant learning.

Life is a wondrous thing. It can be easy or difficult, beautiful or ugly, interesting, or mundane. It contains everything we set our eyes on, everything that passes through our minds, and everything we love and hate. Life can be so many things, but most of all, life is a gift.

I’ve always been sensitive. It makes me susceptible to bliss. Little things like a gentle breeze, the warmth of the morning sun, or the sight of a bird in a bath can make me very happy.

At the same time, I’m susceptible to fear and worry. I grew up battling social anxiety and depression – both manifestations of my sensitivity. Going to school was hard for me, navigating society is hard for me. I guess you can’t be sensitive to only the good things, can you?

On Dark Blue Journal, my sensitivity became a source of content for my posts.

Minimalism

Perhaps it’s to make up for the confusion that results from my sensitivity, I’ve become fiercely passionate about minimalism. I am almost addicted to decluttering.

After a decade of physical decluttering, minimalism has found its way into other aspects of my life. Like my life and this blog. I love how it frees up attention and space, and makes me focus on what I have rather than what I lack.

I want to share this benefit with more people!

The environment, and sustainability

Minimalism led me to question my relationship with my things, and subsequently, the environment. In turn, it ignited another passion of mine – spreading awareness about environmental issues.

We’re facing the climate crisis, and writing about it is my way of contributing to the fight, aside from lowering my carbon footprint, of course.

But learning about environmental issues isn’t enough, living a sustainable live speaks louder. And that’s where simplicity comes in.

Striving for simplicity in 2021

In the face of an increasingly cluttered and consumeristic world, it’s too easy to lose control of our most precious resource – attention.

Dark Blue Journal has focused on environmental issues and minimalism in the first two years, but in 2021, the focus will be on minimalism and living simply.

In other words, a way of life that would help us reduce our carbon footprint without dampening the experience of life. In fact, I think it intensifies it!
