The Mystery Blogger Award

The Mystery Blogger Award

I’m super stoked and honored that Delta Eliana Ariana Deathstorm from The Dead Books nominated me for this fun award! You can’t get more mysterious than a zombie scenario writer with a pen name with the initials D.E.A.D.

If you need a break from mundane reality, definitely head over to The Dead books. Let your imagination run wild as you follow Delta on a deep dive into all the “fun” stuff that’d occur in a zombie apocalypse, or a z-pocalypse.

Learn about great zombie traits, ways to not kill yourself and worst places to be in in a z-pocalypse and other fun stuff. Read it for fun now, and hopefully they won’t come in handy in the future!

Three Facts About Me!

  1. I like to watch ghosts-caught-on-camera videos on YouTube. If you like to watch such videos too, I’ll recommend Nuke’s Top 5. He’s very rational about each clip and doesn’t torture you with jump-scares. I’m trying not to binge-watch everything on his channel.
    It’s my guilty pleasure.
Yes, I know most of them are fake, but it’s still fun (and a little creepy) to watch them. In fact, it’s fun to read the comments too! I watch all of them with a grain of salt, but I’ll admit that I find some of them very difficult to explain with faking techniques. Though I won’t say I believe them, I wouldn’t discount all of them either.
  2. I underwent several Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in 2015, and since then I’ve had lapses in my memory. I can’t even remember how many ECTs I had.
The craziest thing is, I’ve no memories of my friends visiting me when I was hospitalized for that bad depressive episode. In fact, I didn’t “know” they visited until someone mentioned it and I’m like, “they did?”
They did, I even posted a picture of books they brought me on Instagram – but the memory doesn’t exist in my mind. It’s super weird.
I still blank out on things people told me – there won’t even be a ghost of a memory to let me know I forgot. Thankfully, my partner understands. It’s annoying, but that’s just how things turned out.
  3. I’m “mostly a Pescatarian”. I stopped eating meat because of their ecological impact, and the inhumane treatment of animals at meat factories doesn’t help. Personally, I only cook vegetarian meals. BUT, when I’m back home in Singapore, it’s a different story.
At every typical Chinese family’s dinner, we have a bowl of rice each and share a bunch of dishes. My dad likes to add meat in many dishes, and everyone else eats meat. Since I won’t make everyone accommodate me, I relax my “rules”. If it’s a minced meat dish, I’ll avoid the entire dish. If it’s sauteed vegetables with pork or chicken slices, I’ll eat the vegetables. For me, it’s not about food sensitivities or religion, so I’m not too particular about it.
I also find bone broth very hard to avoid in Singapore, every noodle soup seems to be made with bone broth, and I love soup. I always order them meatless, but some would say that the broth is already “animal”. So, I’ll just say I’m “mostly a Pescatarian”. :p

Delta’s Questions

  1. You have to give up music or films for the rest of your life, what do you choose?
This is such a difficult question! Surprisingly, I think I’ll choose to give up music. I always thought I’ll never give up music, but it seems worse to lose films. Ultimately, I think I love stories more than melodies… And movie nights at home are one of my favorite things!
  2. What was your favourite book as a child?
As a young child, my favorite book was Heidi. I love Beauty and the Beast, but Heidi was the first book that really stirred my heartstrings. Being homesick was more relatable to me than being lovesick then, and the simple life on the beautiful Swiss Alps sounded (and still sounds) perfect.
  3. Where would you hide out if there was a zombie apocalypse?
A locked shopping mall with a huge bookshop and supermarket. Food, water, books and space to walk around – I’ll be set for life if I can set up water catchment and a rooftop garden!
  4. If you could have a superpower what would it be?
Teleportation. So I can shuttle between my families in Singapore and the States.
  5. What is your favourite takeaway?
A good saying. :p Chinese food. Either noodles with a spicy broth, or rice with a spicy dish with a lot of gravy.

  1. Congratulations on your award. Well deserved. Your writing has inspired me on so many levels. Sometimes we’re so closed minded on many levels, but you have shown a different perspective on many subjects, Thank you.

    1. Thank you for reading and commenting! 🙂 I’m really happy that my writing adds some value to your life. Knowing that makes my day! To realize that we’re closed-minded in certain ways requires an open mind. Don’t forget to give yourself credit for that! 🙂

      1. And I look forward to reading yours! I love that I got to answer and ask questions in this one. 🙂 Thanks for reading and commenting!

  2. Thanks for your lovely words Julie! I loved your answers, movie nights are the best. It would be a tough choice if we really had to have movies or music in our lives. If I actually get my act together I might actually write another blog post. My jobs just taken over and I don’t have as much time 🙁 boo!

    1. Boo is right! I’ll be waiting though. Hope we don’t have to wait too soon! 🙂 Thanks for nominating me, I had fun writing this post. I hope your workload eases!

    1. Thanks! I’m fine for the most part now. I didn’t know GA kills memories. It could be that then! It sucks that you lost your childhood memories. Were you upset when you realized it?
I’ll stay strong. You too! 🙂 I’ve been thinking about you – not in a creepy way haha. I hope each day gets easier for you!

      1. I am numbed. It is ok as life gives new memories. More than 20 GA episodes I don’t have attachment to memories anymore. Thank you for thinking of me. For someone whom I have not met but cares enough to think of me, I am grateful 💕💕👍😊for your care and concern

        1. That’s wisdom right there! Life gives us new memories alright. 🙂 That’s way too many GA, I wish life didn’t deal you such a difficult hand. But what does life care about our wishes! All I can say is, our trials and tribulations shape our character – that’s how you got tough and wise! Jiayou! 🙂

  3. Congrats on being nominated for the mystery blogger award! It is great that you avoid land meat as much as possible. It is difficult to find a lot of non-meat dishes in the Asian culture, but at least there are alternatives available! Thanks for sharing!

  4. Congratulations on your nomination, Julie!! You honestly truly deserve it! I hope more people discover your amazing blog this way! And thank you for MY nomination! I’m so honored 🙂 I was in treatment with a girl who had numerous ECT sessions and she complained of the memory loss too. I’m sorry you don’t remember your friends visiting, but I’m glad they did though! You need friends who will be there for you even if you can’t recall that they were. And you’re right, as a vegetarian, it’s so hard to avoid meat in anything! I too bend the rules a lot. My dad is a big meat eater, and so are other family members, so there have been times where I’ve eaten broth or a dish that’s been chicken or beef or has them in it because I don’t want to offend anyone. My aunt is a vegan, but she does the same thing we do in social situations and just offers up a little prayer in her head to the animal who had it’s like taken away before she eats whatever dish it is. I thought that was a sweet way of not offending family but still keeping your values.

This was such a fun award and tag and I can’t wait to answer the questions you wrote! Congratulations again!!

    1. I can’t wait to read your responses! You deserve yours too! By the way, I’ve noticed the amount of care you put into your comments – I really appreciate them! Thank you!
Yes, it seems to be a pretty common side effect. I should’ve cared more and researched about it. But at that time I didn’t care. Haha! They’re still my friends so that says a lot. 🙂
I’m so glad I talked about my dietary choices as one of the facts. I’ve been feeling like a fraud when I tell people I’m a pescatarian but I’m not particular about it. I feel better knowing that I’m not the only rule-bender. It’s good enough that family members cook for us, to be picky about it just feels wrong to me. Besides, I feel like it makes people more receptive to my choice too. Sometimes my sister complains about my avoidance of meat, but she too considers eating lesser meat. Win-win!
      Thanks for reading! 🙂

  5. This was super entertaining to read and it’s always a great way to find out a bit more about the blogger behind the blog! I have the exact same logic as you in regards to a zombie apocalypse – a secure shopping mall is totally the way to go haha. It’s admirable that you’re trying to cut down on your consumption of meat, it can be tough but keep at it, every little helps as they say. Thanks for sharing your answers x

    1. I’m glad you found it entertaining. I had loads of fun writing it. The fun questions helped, of course. Great minds think alike! Shopping malls are more “self-sufficient” than most buildings, it’ll be even better if they use solar panels!
I’m just doing what I can and hoping it’s enough. 🙂 Thanks for reading and commenting!

  6. Heidi! A truly good book, though I had to read it more then once to finally understand the whole story. I was sad when she left her mountain home for so long but I suppose there would be no story if she had stayed there forever.

Loved learning a bit more about you. And your zombie apocalypse survival game has some good points to it.

    1. Glad to know a fellow Heidi appreciator! I was sad when she left, then I got sadder when she got homesick! The author left a hole in my childish heart, good thing it had a happy ending! Hole mended haha. Yes, there’d be no story if she had stayed.

Glad you enjoyed the post! I have to admit that I fantasized a good bit about zombie apocalypse so that helped. 😛

      Thanks for reading and commenting!
