A Story of Yanxi Palace Doodle

So I was super intrigued by the TV series from China, Story of Yanxi Palace (延禧攻略). As I binge-watched it, I don’t know what I liked better: the way they talked, the intricate decor, the beautiful costumes, or the story itself. In any case, I enjoyed it tremendously and it reminded me of my roots. It’s such a pity that they’re banning period dramas.

By accident, I discovered that doodling while binge watching a show is a perfect way of making the time wasted used on watching the show feel deceptively productive. Especially when it has 70 episodes.

So here it is. I couldn’t reproduce the intricate designs I saw, but the show definitely had an influence on the doodle. I had a really good time doing it and I like the result despite the smudging. It is a very busy piece and I find myself using it as a reference for patterns.
